About Stephen J. Laquis, MD, FACS in Fort Myers
Dr. Stephen Laquis is a fellowship-trained oculoplastic surgeon and board-certified facial plastic surgeon serving patients throughout Fort Myers and the greater Southwest Florida region. As a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Laquis brings a rare combination of medical expertise and artistic precision to every procedure he performs.
Our Fort Myers facial plastic surgery clinic specializes in the full spectrum of oculoplastic and reconstructive care — from functional eyelid surgery and orbital reconstruction to cosmetic rejuvenation treatments. Whether your needs are medical or aesthetic, Dr. Laquis and our dedicated team are committed to delivering outstanding, personalized results in a warm and welcoming environment.
Our Top Procedures at the Fort Myers Office
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, corrects excess skin, fatty deposits, and muscle laxity around the upper and lower eyelids that cause a tired or aged appearance — and in many cases, obstruct peripheral vision. Dr. Laquis performs both functional and cosmetic blepharoplasty with meticulous technique, placing incisions within natural eyelid creases for discreet, lasting results.
If heavy eyelids are limiting what you can see or making you look older than you feel, eyelid surgery at our Fort Myers clinic can restore clarity, comfort, and a refreshed, natural appearance without an overdone look.
Ptosis is the drooping of one or both upper eyelids below their natural resting position, and it can range from a subtle cosmetic concern to a significant visual impairment. In children, untreated ptosis can interfere with normal vision development, while adults often experience difficulty with reading, driving, and everyday tasks.
Dr. Laquis identifies the underlying cause — whether levator muscle weakness, nerve-related changes, or age-related tissue laxity — and customizes the surgical correction to restore proper eyelid height and symmetry with precision.
Skin Cancer of the Eyelid & Face
The periocular region — the skin surrounding the eyes — is among the most sun-exposed areas of the face and a common site for basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Because these structures are so close to the eye, safe removal requires a surgeon who is equally skilled in oncologic excision and functional reconstruction.
Dr. Laquis specializes in eyelid and facial skin cancer removal with careful attention to achieving clear margins while restoring natural eyelid function and cosmetic appearance. He regularly collaborates with Mohs surgeons for optimal margin control prior to reconstruction.
Botox® remains one of the most trusted and widely used non-surgical cosmetic treatments in the world, and at our Fort Myers office it is administered by knowledgeable providers trained in the precise anatomy of the face. Results are natural, softened, and refreshed — never frozen — with effects typically visible within three to five days and lasting three to four months.
Common treatment areas include forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, crow’s feet, and brow shaping. Many patients combine Botox® with other in-office treatments for a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation without the need for surgery.
Lacrimal System Obstruction Treatment
A blocked tear duct prevents normal tear drainage, leading to chronically watery eyes, recurrent infections, and uncomfortable swelling at the inner corner of the eye. Many patients have lived with this condition for years, assuming it is simply unavoidable — but effective surgical solutions exist.
Dr. Laquis performs dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) and other lacrimal procedures to restore proper tear drainage and eliminate the frustration of persistently watery, irritated eyes. Both external and endonasal (minimally invasive) approaches are available based on each patient’s anatomy and needs.
